Download from 1,800 sites and run coding agents in one app
Made by Antonio Leandro
View profile on GitHub (opens in a new tab)A desktop app that began as a graphical front end for yt-dlp — the tool that downloads video from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and around 1,800 other sites — and has grown a second half that runs AI coding agents locally.
The downloading side adds course sites, a browser extension, and tools to transcribe and convert what you saved. The agent side runs Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or local Ollama models against a folder you choose, showing the change for approval before it happens and offering a one-click undo. It is GPL-3.0 and the project says it collects no telemetry about what you download.
Can I use this?
You'll need Windows, macOS or Linux · Setup needed
Worth knowing Downloading other people’s video, and paid course material in particular, can breach a site’s terms of service or copyright law depending on where you are and what you do with the file. The app makes it easy, which does not make it permitted. The agent half runs commands on your machine, so the permission prompts and the undo are the only thing between an agent and your files. Agent features need your own API keys or a local model. GPL-3.0. BuildTube has not run or verified this software.
