Run millions of AI agent sandboxes on shared infrastructure
Made by Agent Substrate
View profile on GitHub (opens in a new tab)Agent Substrate is infrastructure software for running very large numbers of AI agent sandboxes efficiently, built on the observation that agent-like programs spend most of their time idle.
Rather than giving each agent its own dedicated container the whole time, it maps many "actors" (agent instances) onto a smaller pool of workers, suspending and resuming them in under half a second so one physical machine can host far more agents than usual. It runs on top of Kubernetes, the standard system for managing containers at scale, and supports isolation technologies including microVMs and gVisor.
You could use it to…
- Run thousands of AI agent sandboxes on far fewer machines
- Suspend and resume an idle agent in under half a second
- Multiplex many agent sessions onto one shared worker pool

You'll need A Kubernetes cluster and infrastructure experience · Setup needed
Worth knowing This is deep infrastructure for teams already running agent workloads at scale, not something an individual installs to try a single agent; it needs a working Kubernetes cluster and the operational skill to run one. Apache-2.0 licence. BuildTube has not run or verified this software.
