View profile on GitHub (opens in a new tab)Project NOMAD turns a small computer into a self-contained library and AI assistant that works with no internet connection: offline Wikipedia and reference books, Khan Academy-style courses with progress tracking, downloadable regional maps, and a local AI chatbot you can hand your own documents to.
A one-line installer script sets up a set of self-hosted, open-source tools as Docker containers (packaged software environments) and a "Command Center" web dashboard to manage them. Built for preppers, off-grid households, classrooms, and anyone who wants critical knowledge to survive a power or internet outage, on hardware they own.
You could use it to…
- Run offline Wikipedia and reference books with no internet
- Load a Khan Academy-style course library on your own server
- Ask a local AI chatbot questions about your own documents
Can I use this?
You'll need A Debian-based Linux computer (Ubuntu recommended) and a terminal · Setup needed
Worth knowing Installation is terminal-based and currently targets Debian-based Linux directly (Windows users go through WSL2); AI chat quality depends on which local model you choose to run. Apache-2.0 licence. BuildTube has not run or verified this software.
