Give a coding agent an instant map of a whole codebase
Made by Martin Vogel
View profile on GitHub (opens in a new tab)codebase-memory-mcp is an MCP server (a tool that plugs into AI coding assistants) that reads a codebase and builds a searchable knowledge graph of its functions, classes, call chains and cross-file links, so an agent can answer structural questions about the code in under a millisecond instead of reading files one at a time.
It parses 162 programming languages and claims to fully index an average repository in milliseconds, and even something as large as the Linux kernel (28 million lines of code) in about three minutes. It ships as a single downloadable executable with no separate language runtime or account needed.
You could use it to…
- Give your coding agent an instant map of a whole codebase
- Index the Linux kernel’s 28 million lines in three minutes
- Answer structural code questions in under a millisecond

You'll need A computer to run the downloaded executable on · No install needed
Worth knowing The performance and accuracy figures (83% answer quality, 10x fewer tokens versus file-by-file exploration) are the creator's own reported numbers from a preprint, not an independent audit; the tool reads your codebase and writes to your agent's configuration files, which the project itself flags as something to be aware of.
