Get a Postgres database with auth and APIs already wired up
Made by Supabase
View profile on GitHub (opens in a new tab)A development platform built around Postgres, the long-established open-source database.
Alongside the database it gives you the parts most applications need next and usually build badly: sign-in and permissions, automatically generated REST and GraphQL APIs over your tables, live subscriptions that push changes to connected clients, serverless functions, file storage, and a toolkit for vector embeddings. The project’s stated approach is to assemble it from existing enterprise-grade open-source tools wherever they exist and to open-source the pieces it has to build itself.
You could use it to…
- Get sign-in and a database working the same evening
- Generate a REST API over your tables automatically
- Push live changes to connected clients instantly
Can I use this?
You'll need A browser to start, or Docker to self-host · Ready to use
Worth knowing The hosted service is a business with pricing and limits, and although the components are open source, running the whole platform yourself is materially more work than using it hosted. The project is clear that it is not a one-to-one replacement for Firebase — the aim is a comparable developer experience from open tools, so specific features do not always map across. Individual components carry their own licences alongside the repository’s Apache 2.0. BuildTube has not run or verified this software.
