Turn long videos into short, shareable highlight clips
Made by Kris K
View profile on GitHub (opens in a new tab)AutoClip is a desktop app that watches a long video — a podcast, stream or lecture — and automatically finds and cuts the moments worth sharing, using an AI model you connect (you choose the provider in settings).
It installs as a Mac or Windows app with Python and the video tool FFmpeg bundled in, so there is nothing extra to set up beyond picking a model and importing a video; Intel Mac and Linux users can run it through Docker or the command line instead. It is aimed at creators who record long-form content and want short clips for social platforms without editing by hand.
You could use it to…
- Turn a long podcast or lecture into short shareable clips
- Let an AI model score which moments are worth sharing
- Run it fully local with Ollama for no cloud cost

Worth knowing Clipping quality depends on which AI model you connect, and cloud models receive your subtitle text even though the video itself stays on your device. The creator says accuracy is highest for speech-driven content like interviews and talks, and weaker for footage without much dialogue. MIT licence. BuildTube has not run or verified this software.
